The weather here is a little sad and dreary. Gray and windy and super wet.
So when Lute and I had the opportunity to go to a prescreening of the new IMAX movie Journey to the South Pacific at the Pacific Science Center downtown, we were all over it. It was my first 3D movie because apparently I'm stuck back in 2009. Or maybe I have five kids and don't hit the theaters up very much. I dunno. WE LOVED IT. I cannot say enough good things about this film.
It was a beautiful movie - set in gorgeous West Papua, it follows a boy who is able to spend the summer living on a boat with other children and teachers and explore the reefs nestled among nine tiny islands. You are part of his journey, his discoveries, and all the beauty and fun and excitement that involves. Sea turtles and whale sharks, coral reefs and manta rays.
I loved feeling enveloped in another culture, I loved that I got to take my six year old along. I love that the boy in the movie talks about being scared and getting over it. I loved the music and the setting and the stories. And at only 40 minutes, you don't have to worry about your little people getting restless. If anything, you want the movie to keep on going.
It officially hits IMAX theaters around the country at the end of the month. If you have the chance to go, please do so. It's like a forty minute vacation to one of the most beautiful parts of the world. One you can go on with your favorite little people.
Prepare for a little wonder for you both.
