what we're doing today. help me.

Oh you know, just potty training two kids today, no big deal.
So maybe I should've started with Eddie like six months ago, but he screamed every time
he neared the toilet, so we put it off.
Now we're going cold turkey with the diapers and I am scared.

So, really, can you help me?
Tell me your tips and tricks to do this thing.
My first kid basically potty trained himself by the age of two,
so yeah, I was a little spoiled.

If you have any advice for me, I'll take it.
In the mean time, I'll be pinching those cute little tushies and mopping all our floors.
Peace.

  1. I read my kids the potty books, which I loved and they did too! They were well aware of what it was all about... When they are ready it is as easy as pie...

  2. OH good luck! I seriously think potty training has been the most difficult thing to tell with thus far in this mothering journey! Advice: flushable wipes, super cheap big pack of walmart undies that can be thrown away in case of a really bad poop incident (saved my sanity), sticker charts, healthy snack rewards so their teeth don't rot out.

  7. I just left the Walmart with the snap on toilet seat. The floor potty is getting us to nowhere: as in we would rather throw our cookies in it.

    I feel your pain.

  9. Well, I'm ashamed to admit that some of my ugliest moments were during potty training. I started when I was ready, not my son. (Nothing showed me sin in my own life like screaming my head off at my 2 1/2 yr old who just WASNT ready) Thank you Jesus for repentance and grace. I threw in the towel and waited another 6 months until HE was ready, and things went MUCH better then. Good luck. I think potty training has been my least favorite part of parenting.

  10. Yes! They gotta be ready as per thetoddlerwhisperer, we tried with my daughter first time and it was a no go, second time was a charm but the magic bullet for us was m & m's. She had not had a huge amount of candy in her life till then, so she got 1 for a pee and 2 for a poo and let me tell you they were a huge motivator! Stickers and what not, just did not cut it. Oh and the floor potty did not ever work for us, the small one you put on the potty worked much better! Good luck, I will be doing it again pretty soon myself.

  11. A jar of M&M's placed somewhere near the toilet and every time they go they get to not only have one for themselves but give one to their siblings. My youngest Isaiah, LOVED this idea because he felt so proud to pass out M&M's to his older siblings. It worked really well for him. Also letting them pick out the undies because they usually try really hard to not get those favorite characters dirty. Umm... and lots of patience and encouragement for trying. Summer is a GREAT time to potty train because the schedule is usually a bit slower and the weather usually a bit warmer. (Although here in WA ya can't always count on the weather part) Hang in there Carina !!

  12. man, no real advice. it just kind of sucks no matter what IMO. we're doing the same thing right now and basically we just have to remember to take him at least every 1.5 hours. not that bad really, but we still manage to forget... hello puddles.

  13. I really enjoy reading your blog. I wish you the best with potty training. I'm working on potty training my 2 year old now. I have no great tips to offer, just my sympathy. One day it will click for them. Until then we will wash underwear and mop floors.
