My Eddie boy turned three this weekend. I can't even ponder it too long, or I get a little weepy.
What's with these kids and all the growing?
Anyway, little man requested a "stinky cake" for his birthday in all his little boy humor
and because the kid has a crazy fascination with garbage trucks, I ran with it.
I googled "garbage truck party" and there were one or two blogs with some great ideas,
but I think this is still a novel concept, so I had to get a little creative.
I am really happy with how it turned out and the boys loved it, so all in all, I think it was a success!
I covered the table in black garbage bags, made bunting out of newspaper, used our recycling bin to chill drinks, spray painted some plastic cups to look like trash cans for favors, made poms out of old magazines (great tutorial here), used little trash bins filled with crumpled paper as centerpieces, and made Eddie his very own stinky cake.
Nick led the kids in a bunch of fun games:
trashketball (throwing recyclables through a bball hoop), garbage grab (racing to pick up trash with robot claws), and a relay race.
The cake was the most fun: white cake with chocolate frosting, a toy garbage truck on top, dumping out loads of candy:
raisinets, swedish fish, gummy worms, and m&m's.
I crumbled some chocolate wafer cookies for dirt, and topped it off with a big, gross plastic bug.
It may have resulted in a crazy sugar rush, but isn't that what makes a birthday party awesome?
The party wasn't complete without some wonderful friends and family to celebrate with!
We had a great time and are so in love with our big 3 year old.
Happy birthday, buddy!

That's really cool! My little nephew (celebrated his 2nd birthday with a generic truck party recently) loves the garbage truck and garbage men! :) This party just may be what I will convince his mommy to do for his 3rd! :)
ReplyDeleteI just found you on Pinterest, SO darling! I am copying your cake! Where did you find that garbage truck? I've been looking everywhere for one small enough to fit the cake.
